PVL Essentials Sport Gainer

PVL Essentials Sport Gainer

PVL Essentials is a new supplement line from PVL that is certified 100% natural; As in, only using natural ingredients and avoiding any artificial ones including artificial sweeteners and sugars. The PVL Essentials Sport Gainer is of course, as the name suggests, their mass gaining shake. This review will cover the texture, taste, mixability, and overall value of the product and avoid covering topics such as amount of weight gained during use because there are just too many variables that factor into how much weight will be gained or lost while using a mass gainer.

Mixability- I find that  2 scoops (half serving) mixes very well in your average shaker cup, a few chunks here and there if you do not shake it enough times but that is expected from basically all mass gainers so just give it those extra few shakes and you’re good to go.

Taste – PVL’s Sport Gainer chocolate flavour actually tastes very good, I was pleasantly surprised considering that it is 100% natural and a mass gainer. Very happy with the flavour. Wasn’t overly sweet tasting but it was chocolatey enough to hide any kind of protein flavour/after taste.

Quality – At 870 calories per 4 scoops (216g) PVL’s Sport Gainer will surely give you that added calorie boost to get over any plateaus but you may be asking, are the calories healthy calories? or should I just go buy McDonalds and call it a day? Fortunately, PVL has actually taken the time to put a solid nutritional profile into this product – For the most part all the protein is from a whey source, either whey concentrate or whey isolate. It is also worth noting that there is NO soy protein whatsoever in their blend. out of the 156g of carbohydrates per 4 scoops, only 36g of those are sugars. To top it all off, there are only 9g of fat per 4 scoop serving. This is one of the healthier mass gainers I have seen on the market and one of the better tasting ones I have tried – definitely high quality.

Value – Of course, the one downside, is that this gainer will be priced at a bit of a premium compared to other mass gainers on the market. Sport Gainer can be up to around $35-$39 for a 3.4lb at retail store locations but at SVNCanada and most Canadian online stores you can get it for about $29; not a bad price at all considering the quality.
