ProteinCo Canada's Amino RecoveryAs I mentioned in an earlier post where I gave my impressions on ProteinCo’s Pre-Workout Drink, I also got a chance to try out their Amino Recovery! I want to mention right off the bat that ProteinCo did NOT cheap out on this formula or the serving size of it. 80g of quality ingredients in EACH serving; in contrast, most post workouts these days seem to be about half that serving size or even less. Some companies call their BCAA + Glutamine blends “post workouts”. In reality, a BCAA + Glutamine blend is more of an intra-workout shake, you will still want to take your post-workout afterwards. Keep in mind that after a workout your glycogen levels are drained and your muscles torn (assuming it was an intense workout) so you need simple/fast absorbing carbs and protein to begin re-fueling your body so it can repair those muscles efficiently and effectively. This is where Amino Recovery comes in, its 50g carbohydrate blend consisting of waxy maize, dextrose, and maltodextrin is perfect for replenishing those glycogen stores and increasing the absorption rate of the 28g anti-catabolic blend consisting primarily of amino acids and creatine.

Yes, maltodextrin is technically a complex carb but the carbohydrate chain it is made up of is very weak and broken down extremely easily by your body and thus makes it’s absorption rate just a fraction slower than dextrose. As far as the waxy maize starch goes, waxy maize is designed to bypass the stomach to shuttle amino acids, creatine, and other nutrients effectively – cool huh?

Amino Recovery, as noted earlier, features a 28g anti-catabolic blend consisting of select amino acids such as BCAA’s; which do wonders for muscle repair. Along side these amino acids you also get creatine, Siberian ginseng, and as an added bonus you even get some electrolytes thrown in there for hydration! So, as you can see, on paper this is a seemingly perfect recovery supplement…

Did it live up to it’s label?

Simply put – Yes! You will not be disappointed with Amino Recovery. Take a full serving after an intense workout and you WILL notice the difference in comparison to if you only had a simple protein shake, or BCAA supplement. My first time using it was after a cross fit workout, which are designed to push your limits to the max, and the next two days I didn’t feel near as sore as I usually do. Yes, you still will feel sore; I don’t think they have come out with a supplement that will heal you like superman yet, but Amino Recovery by ProteinCo will suffice until they do.

Taste wise? I had the vanilla flavour and it was very sweet tasting but still easy to drink. To adjust the sweetness you can just add more water, I generally do not use a lot of water in my shakes which is why I found it so sweet. You can tell their is a good amount of waxy maize in it just by the texture when mixed up; if you have ever had waxy maize before then you will know what I mean. If you haven’t then just wait until you do and it will all make sense, a very unique texture. My favourite quality about the flavour is that it doesn’t leave a bad after taste in your mouth like many other recovery drinks do!

Overall, this is an excellent post workout formula and you can get it from ProteinCo Canada for just $39.95 (15 servings). 15 servings may seem a bit low but keep in mind that they are 80g servings; not just half servings like many other companies have…

ProteinCo Pre-Workout Drink

Use coupon code: "10proteincotr" so save 10% on your first purchase from ProteinCo.ca!

ProteinCo has just recently began selling supplements in Canada and their company features premium quality products that have been scientifically formulated and tested by Olympic athletes!

I managed to get my hands on their Pre-Workout Drink and their Amino Recovery products; don’t be fooled by their generic names, both of these products are top notch and use very high quality ingredients.

First off, ProteinCo’s Pre-Workout Drink is stimulant FREE; this gives the user the option of adding in their own stimulants. Personally, I often workout in the evening and would prefer not to be up all night with a caffeine buzz so I love when a pre-workout is caffeine free(you can always add in your own caffeine). Remember, caffeine pills are super cheap; ProteinCo sells 100tabs 200mg ea for only $5.95 – one of the best deals I’ve seen for caffeine pills. Pre-Workout Drink features a 20g carbohydrate energy blend consisting of dextrose and malodextrin. Along with the energy blend they have a anti-catabolic blend consisting of select amino acids such as the BCAA’s to aid in recovery/endurance and L-citruline to jack up your Nitric Oxide production. ProteinCo even added in some electrolytes to the blend which is always a welcome addition to any pre-workout formula.

On to my initial impressions…

Taste: This product tastes awesome; sweetened mainly with stevia extract as well as sucralose. It is worth noting that they have used higher quality stevia extract so you do not get that nasty after taste that is common with lower grade stevia. Currently the only flavour is fruit punch, but I would rather they have only 1 flavour that tastes delicious than have 2 flavours that are both just so-so. There still is a little bit of a BCAA taste in there but knowing how gross BCAA’s taste just unflavoured, ProteinCo has done a great job hiding that taste. It is also worth noting that they plan to make all their products sweetened exclusively with stevia, making them 100% natural. Always nice to hear when companies decide to stay away from artificial ingredients.

Energy: I was surprised how much energy this product gave considering it did not contain any caffeine; I mean you’re still not going to compare it to 1MR or Jack3d energy wise but the “super concentrated” stim filled, feel like your on speed, pre-workout phase is slowing down now. Like I said before, if you find that you still need that stimulant buzz then you can just throw a caffeine pull into the mix.

Pump: since there is no caffeine in this product to act as a vaso-constrictor; my pump felt noticeably bigger than when I take any stim based pre-workout. Genetically, I am not a very vascular guy but my bicep and forearm veins were popping out while using this product. I know some might say it was just placebo but either way I don’t care I was amped up.

Overall: Upon initial impressions I would definitely recommend trying out this product if you are in the market for a stimulant free pre-workout drink or want the option of being able to add in your own stimulants. I will post updated impressions later in the month once I have finished my tub! Stay tuned.
